Entre danseurs et chorégraphe s’installent souvent des formes de co-création, la créativité des uns nourrissant activement l’oeuvre de l’autre. Le chorégraphe international Emanuel Gat rend hommage à la singularité et à l’engagement des artistes qui l’accompagnent. Dix d’entre eux donnent à voir  six courtes pièces qui sont autant de variations sur les recherches du chorégraphe mais qui portent, pour la plupart, le nom de leurs interprètes. Sur un plateau presque nu, l’émotion circule par le mouvement pur ; duos et pièces de groupe se succèdent et se construisent parfois en temps réel, à partir de fragments et de dialogues. Les danseurs y font corps avec la clarté et la précision qui donnent sa beauté à l’écriture d’Emanuel Gat – devenue ici symbole de partage et de plaisir de danser.

Israeli-born Emanuel Gat returns to his dance home at the Suzanne Dellal Centre with a special evening of performance.

SACRE / WORKS revisits some of Gat’s most famous works in a collage of performance. SACRE is a revisited version Gat’s 2004 piece set to Stravinsky's eponymous score “The Rite of Spring.” A work for three women and two men, SACRE deconstructs the mechanics of Cuban salsa dancing, and reassembles them to create a complex and dramaturgically charged choreographic score. A free spirited and challenging reading of Stravinsky's masterpiece, SACRE offers no notions of sacrifice, but rather a multitude of options for action. WORKS celebrates the uniqueness, virtuosity, fearlessness, and humanity of dancers. Ten dancers share the stage in a series of six short works, in various constellations, musical environments and choreographies. WORKS is a reaction to the changing times, and to the constant evolution of the manner in which dance, and art in general, is produced. It is an attempt to explore new models of artistic production, to question old boundaries and hierarchies, and explore models of inclusiveness and support. 

Emanuel Gat was born in Israel in 1969. His first encounter with dance was during a workshop led by Israeli choreographer Nir Ben-Gal. He started working as an independent choreographer in 1994 and founded his company Emanuel Gat Dance ten years later at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv. For the Centre, he has created several pieces including Winter Voyage (2004) and the “BESSIE” award-winning The Rite of Spring (2004). Gat has since made France his home. In 2013, Emanuel Gat was an associate artist to the Montpellier Dance Festival. He has presented SUNNY, DUOS, and TENWORKS. Emanuel was a choreographer at the National Scene of Albi in 2016 and 2018-19 and at National Theater of Chaillot in Paris for three years. In 2018, Emanuel collaborated with the prestigious Ensemble Modern and created Story Water at the Cour d'Honneur for Festival d’Avignon. He co-composed the partition Folkdance with the Ensemble’s musicians. Emanuel is regularly invited to set his work and create new pieces for dance companies around the world, including the Paris Opera Ballet, the Sydney Dance Company and the Ballet British Columbia among others.
